Texel is best discovered on foot or by bike. This will take you to the most beautiful places and you will have plenty of time to take in the sounds, smells and colours. There are many (signposted) walking and cycling routes on the island; here you can be surprised by the most beautiful nature and vast beaches.
De Koog is a cosy seaside resort with many shops, restaurants and cafés. You walk straight from the village to the wide sandy beach with fine beach pavilions.
Den Burg is the capital of Texel, with lots of activity in the centre with nice shops, terraces and restaurants around the church.
In Oosterend, you can wander through picturesque streets and alleys with beautiful old facades and visit the oldest church on the island.
The village of De Cocksdorp is located at the foot of the lighthouse, within walking distance of the Wadden Sea. Climb the lighthouse for breathtaking views over the Wadden Sea.
Oudeschild is a true Texel fishing village with a beautiful harbour right by the sea. Here you can take a boat trip on a shrimp boat or go seal spotting. In the harbour, you will find several fish restaurants where you can eat delicious fresh fish.
Texel's beach has a length of no less than 30 kilometres; you will experience the ultimate feeling of freedom here. Put on your walking shoes and let the wind blow through your hair during a beach walk along the tide line. Or take off your shoes and enjoy a lovely sunny afternoon by the sea.
Texel's most popular beach is the beautiful sandy beach at De Koog, which is pleasantly crowded in good weather. For a bit more peace and quiet, go to the vast beach area De Hors, in the south of Texel. More info >
