Nationaal Park de Drentsche Aa is a unique unspoilt natural landscape, which is traversed by an ancient, meandering stream past beautiful heathlands, forest lakes and characteristic villages such as Zuidlaren and Taarlo.
During a nature walk or bike ride, you can enjoy beautiful insects, flowers and plants and spot special animals such as beavers, otters and kingfishers. Many routes are available.
On the Balloërveld you unexpectedly come face to face with a flock of 400 Drentsche heath sheep, which make their home here and help to keep the heath landscape varied.
The Hunebeds in the nature reserve reveal the rich history of the area; follow a route along the 52 dolmens or spot the Big Five.
